2007 Plan of Action
The Chamber ... Where Business Comes to
Grow
Economic
Growth
A new
era of economic growth has begun. The Chamber will play
a leadership role in the critical initiatives for
economic progress.
-
Fully explore the possibilities of the Economic
Growth Council, this community’s new economic
development team.
-
Build the case, and begin the implementation of
strategies to diversify our economy
-
Conduct meetings to design the efforts to enhance
our initiatives in recruiting talent to the region.
-
Commence activities to create a new campaign to
“brand” our community.
-
Begin the creation of an entrepreneurial support
system.
Government
Relations
There
exists a need to enhance the influence of the business
community in public forums. The opportunity for
partnerships and collaboration has never been more
important.
-
Investigate the creation of a Political Action
Committee (PAC) to expand our influence in local and
state politics.
-
Seek to build “partnerships for the future” with
public sector leadership.
-
Advocate for the business position on issues for
critical importance such as education,
infrastructure and business climate.
Lifestyle
Environment
Our
quality of life is cherished, but still has room for
enhancement. “Lifestyle Environment” and Economic
Development are now vitally linked.
-
Begin to seek partners for a community strategic
plan.
-
Expand business involvement in land use and
comprehensive planning.
-
Build the collaborative team for raising the
“coolness quotient” for our community.
Member
Services
Create an environment for business growth with a series
of programs to provide competitive advantage to our
members.
-
Evaluate programs to recognize our amazing small
business community. Provide an array of member
networking and visibility enhancements.
-
Focus our events agenda on high impact, high value
added activities.
Conventions,
Visitors and Tourism
Our
growing visitor economy is a key element in our image,
our “coolness” and our job creation. We will leverage
our hospitality and our visitor investment to grow this
important sector.
-
Enhance the ability of our local contacts in state,
regional and national organizations to recruit those
meetings to Spartanburg.
-
Provide conventions and visitors the information and
services to maximize their experience.
-
Focus our staff and volunteer resources on high
value added activities.
Communications
Our
communications are reflections of priorities, interests,
issues and involvement. They facilitate vital
information for our members.
-
Continue to present the business perspective on
local, state and national issues.
-
Provide valuable, useable information to our
members.
-
Enhance the benefits of Chamber membership.
Education
As we
continue to mirror the information society, education is
currency. Our economic future will reflect our
education attainment.
-
We
will seek innovative ways to address chronic
underachievement.
-
Quantify the impacts of low attainment, and the
benefits of higher attainment.
-
Build public awareness around the issues and
opportunities.
